Messi was seen approaching a member of NYCFC’s coaching staff and placing his hand on the back of their neck amid post-match arguments.

The incident unfolded moments after Messi assisted Telasco Segovia in scoring a stoppage-time equalizer at Inter Miami’s Chase Stadium.

Tempers flared, leading to heated exchanges between both teams.

Videos of the altercation circulated widely on social media, sparking debates among football fans.

While some defended Messi, others argued that professional players should set better examples.

Messi was not the only player sanctioned. Inter Miami teammate Luis Suarez was also fined for a separate incident at halftime, where he pinched NYCFC player Birk Risa’s neck.

MLS reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline across all levels of competition.

“Respect for opponents and officials is fundamental to the integrity of our league,”the disciplinary committee stated.

The fines serve as a reminder that rules apply to all players, regardless of their stature in football.

While the MLS has not disclosed the exact amount of the fines, the disciplinary actions reinforce the importance of maintaining sportsmanship on and off the pitch.
