Portable Finally in Police Custody After Weeks of Evasion

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has surrendered to the Ogun State Police Command following weeks of evasion.

His decision to report to the authorities comes after he was declared wanted for allegedly assaulting officials of the Ogun State Town Planning Agency during an enforcement operation on his property in Ilogbo.

The Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed his arrival at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta, stating, “The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the public that Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, arrived at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, at exactly 13:23 hours today, February 19, 2025.

His presence at the SCID is connected to an ongoing investigation.”

Portable’s legal troubles began when he was accused of confronting three town planning officials—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—while they carried out their duties in Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota.

Following the altercation, the singer reportedly went into hiding, denying any involvement in the attack.

However, as pressure mounted, he attempted to seek intervention from both the federal and Ogun State governments, claiming that he was undergoing psychiatric treatment.

The police, however, dismissed his claims and insisted that he remained a wanted person.

His surrender appears to be an attempt to clear his name, especially after he hinted on social media that he might turn himself in.

Before doing so, he issued a public apology to the Ogun State government, explaining that he fled out of fear.

The police have assured the public that due process will be followed, stating,

“The command assures the public that due process will be followed in handling this matter, and updates will be provided as necessary.”
