The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has approved ₦1.1 billion in compensation for property owners affected by the ongoing construction of the six-lane Airport Road to Kuje expressway.
The minister, during a visit to the project site in Abuja, inspected the 13 buildings marked for demolition and assured prompt payment to avoid delays in project completion.
Wike stated, “I am happy with what I have seen. I will immediately approve the amount so that the Federal Capital Development Authority can start paying the compensation.
I am going to make the ₦1.1 billion available so that the contractor will not find any excuse to delay the project.”
This move highlights the minister’s commitment to balancing infrastructural development with fairness to affected citizens.
In addition, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress of other projects, including the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, slated for completion by September 2025, and the Asuquo Okon Road, expected to be ready by May 2025.
However, this situation serves as a reminder for citizens to be cautious about property locations, while authorities like the LBSCA should intensify efforts to ensure proper land use to avoid similar challenges in the future.
