In a statement by his special adviser on information & strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended the Tribune for its role as a “Great Survivor” in Nigeria’s media landscape, maintaining the vision of its founding publisher, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and his wife, Hannah Dideolu.

Tinubu applauded the newspaper’s resilience in advocating for the rights of all Nigerians, regardless of economic, social, or political background, while weathering challenges and attempts to stifle its voice over the years.

Reflecting on its rich history, the President celebrated the contributions of renowned journalists like Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Chief Tola Adeniyi, and others who built the Tribune brand into a bastion of truth.

Tinubu emphasized the importance of reputable journalism in today’s digital age, noting, “These publications provide the public with information grounded in facts, balance, and a commitment to social harmony.”

He expressed hope that the anniversary commemorations would honor the Tribune’s legacy while reinforcing its future commitment to credible reporting amidst a wave of sensationalism and misinformation.

The Nigerian Tribune, established on November 16, 1949, by Chief Awolowo, has cultivated a legacy of resilient, responsible journalism that has stood the test of time.

President Tinubu wished the publication many more years of impactful journalism, urging other media organizations to learn from its dedication to truth and service to society.

He noted that such efforts help give a voice to the voiceless and contribute to the peace and progress of the nation, a role that remains essential in strengthening democratic ideals and social harmony.
