In preparation for Saturday’s highly anticipated governorship election, the Ondo State Government has declared Friday, November 15, a public holiday to allow state workers time to travel to their communities and exercise their voting rights.

The announcement, made in a press release signed by O. F. Ayodele, permanent secretary in the office of the head of service, underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that residents have the opportunity to participate safely and without logistical challenges.

Officials have directed all accounting officers to inform their respective ministries and departments about the holiday, aiming to foster maximum voter turnout.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has distributed sensitive voting materials to all 18 local government areas.

The distribution process, held at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Akure, was supervised by Ondo’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, who assured the public of the commission’s readiness for a free and fair election.

Babalola remarked, “The farthest local governments have started moving to their local governments.

All the other local governments, they have received their materials, they are checking, and they are loading the vehicles.”

This early preparation, she noted, demonstrates INEC’s dedication to transparency and smooth coordination for the voting process.

The election, which features 17 political parties and includes incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, is one of the most closely watched races in the state.

By allowing a day off for travel, the government is prioritizing voter safety and civic engagement, creating an environment that encourages active and safe participation in the democratic process.

This proactive measure aims to reduce the risk of travel-related accidents and ensure a seamless voting experience for all.
