Developed through a collaboration between Hanson Robotics and the university’s computer science and AI departments, Sophia boasts advanced AI capabilities, allowing her to hold natural conversations, mimic human gestures, and navigate her environment with ease.

At the event, Youth Minister Honourable Tino Machakaire celebrated the achievement, emphasizing its importance for Zimbabwe’s technological advancement.

“The future of Zimbabwe in Artificial Intelligence is very bright,” he wrote, after engaging in a conversation with Sophia on contemporary issues.

While many Zimbabweans applauded this significant milestone as a sign of progress, some critics pointed out Sophia’s origins in Hong Kong.

Nevertheless, the launch highlights the nation’s commitment to fostering innovation and empowering its youth to leave a global impact.
