Wizkid’s latest album, Morayo, named in honor of his late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun, delivers an emotional and powerful exploration of themes like resilience, loss, and joy.
Released after his mother’s passing in August 2023, the album’s title translates to “I see joy” in Yoruba, reflecting the artist’s journey through grief and his hope for brighter days.
“Best album I ever made!! Now listen! It’s only up from here!” Wizkid tweeted in July, hinting at the deeply personal nature of the project.
The 16-track record features collaborations with both local and international stars, including “Piece of My Heart” featuring Brent Faiyaz, which has already soared to No. 4 on the U.S.
Afrobeats Songs chart, and “Bad Girl” with Asake, following their Grammy-nominated success “MMS.”.
Tracks like “Après Minuit” with French star Tiakola and “Bad For You” featuring Jazmine Sullivan further broaden the album’s global appeal.
However, with a mix of reflective melodies and Afrobeat grooves, Wizkid’s “Morayo” not only uplifts fans but also reinforces his status as a role model for emerging artists in the industry.
