Wike Revokes 762 Land Titles in Abuja, Targets Defaulters in Maitama District

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has revoked 762 land plots in Abuja, including those allocated to prominent figures such as former President Muhammadu Buhari and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume.

According to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the decision stems from the failure of the landowners to pay for their Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O).

In a public notice issued by the FCTA, the revoked plots are situated in the upscale Maitama 1 District.

Wike also warned that an additional 614 titles would face revocation if outstanding payments were not settled within two weeks.

The administration cited provisions of Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which allows revocation for breaches such as non-payment of statutory fees.

“The Federal Capital Territory Administration wishes to inform the allottee(s) of plots of land in Maitama 1 who have failed to make payment for their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills that their Right of Occupancy to the land/property has been withdrawn,” the notice read.

Prominent individuals impacted by the revocation include former governors like Rochas Okorocha (Imo State), Ben Ayade (Cross River), and Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), as well as current and former lawmakers like Enyinnaya Abaribe, Dino Melaye, and Abdulmumin Jibrin.

Additionally, high-profile figures such as former Minister of Aviation Stella Oduah and Deputy Governor of Edo State Dennis Idahosa were also named in the list.

The notice emphasized that the FCTA’s actions align with its commitment to enforce transparency and compliance in land management.

“The non-payment of statutory fees by landowners is considered a violation for which allocated plots can be revoked,” the notice stated.

The FCTA urged all defaulters to settle their outstanding balances promptly to avoid further repercussions.

Meanwhile, the public and affected parties are encouraged to treat the matter with urgency to restore order and accountability in land allocation processes.
