In an Interview session with Baale of Iboko/Denro.

Interviewer- Good afternoonsir. Can we meet you sir?

My name is Adewale Ganiyu Lamidi (Baale of Iboko Denro)

Interviewer- Can you share your experiences with us since your appointment as the present baale of Iboko/Denro?

It has not been easy at all. The community was not settled untill I became baale. I am able to resolve issues through the wisdom and knowledge God has given me. So many things are not right in this community but we’re working on correcting a lot of things by his grace.

Interviewer- How long have you been on the throne?

I have spent a year now.

Interviewer- What are the project you are working on in the community to bring development to the community?

Before I was enthroned as the Baale, Denro/Iboko, due to constant erosion the roads have deteriorated with gollys. Though we have called on the government to come to our rescue but while we await their response, we decided to do something on our own. The CDA chairman alongside Afenifere and some devoted landlords have been able to go this far with the road fixing. However we know the work is way beyond us, we just want to do something to ease the people’s transportation before the government finally respond to our call.

Interviewer- Is the government aware of this road project you have embarked on?

We have called them but they’re yet to respond. Iboko/Denro is big community and we really need the government’s help because when the flood comes a lot of the people pack out of their houses to look for where to lay their heads. There are no gutters, we need help.

Interviewer- How do Baale’s get money (salary)?

In ogun state, we were told that state government pay salaries but I am yet to get any.

Interviewer- How did you get money to start the road project?

I was a trader before I was choosen to become Baale and like I said earlier, the good people in the community have been very supportive and encouraging, they’re also eager for the development of the community. Since the one year I have been Baale, I’ve not received any “salary“.

Interviewer- What are the steps taken to Lodge complain to make them pay?

We’ve gone to Ifo local government twice or thrice to complain but they said no chairman yet. Nobody to sign. So we are still waiting.

Interviewer- What is your relationship with other crowned King’s around?

I have a very good relationship with them, the Kings guide and teach me to be a better ruler.

Interviewer- From our findings we discovered there is another man who calls himself Baale in your community. Is there two Baale’s ruling in your community?

Iboko/Denro is being ruled by one ruler which is Adewale Ganiyu Lamidi (Baale of Iboko/Denro).

Interviewer- Who made the other man Baale?

I don’t know. I know about myself that I was appointed by the king Oba Nurudeen Adekanbi Olubiyi 2 (Adimula of Awori’s). I even have a certificate to back me up as the baale of this community, but I don’t know about the other person. This land belongs to the Awori’s and am here as the baale of Awori appointed by the Paramount ruler of the Awori’s.

Interviewer- Since you came on the throne, you haven’t had electricity what are the steps taken to rectify this?

There is a conspiracy behind our not having light. I have visited the IKEDC office in my area, I have sent people there but some bad people in the community is stalling it. I just don’t want to mention names.

Interviewer- Can you mention one of the people involved in this conspiracy?

Its a long story, and I don’t want to mention their names, it’s a conspiracy as I said earlier.

Interviewer- Did you report to any authority since the conspiracy begun?

I wrote to IKEDC office of my area I spoke to Mr bright the marketing manager he agreed to come and do it and later declined because electricity committee of Iboko told him not to. I know the people involved, theyre up to five but no name mentioning now. Iboko is big. We have phase 1, phase 2 and phase three. But phase 1 where my palace is suffering from electricity because we don’t have a good transformer and it has been evacuated for months now but phase 2 and phase 3 are enjoying the light because of availability of a good transformer before I was Baale of the whole Iboko and Denro. Now that I want to connect the light from phase 2 down to phase 1 it has become a great problem because of the conspiracy amongst the people in the community and now it’s affecting me the baale of the community. I fuel generator everyday to have light.

Interviewer- What are your plans for the youth?

We have lots of good plans for them. The youths are very involved in the community development project. During my anniversary, they organized themselves. They came to celebrate with me. Before I came the Baalethe youths have been there but no one to control them until I came. I am their father. I want them to be involved in sports, we want to support them to do whatever they have in mind positively. It is their kind that will see good things outside and replicate such in the community. I can say the youths are obedient.

Interviewer- Do you have any advice for the youths?

  • My advice for them is for them to continue the good works and never relent and to never indulge themselves in odious felony.
