US Forces Destroy Iranian Mine-Laying Boats Near Strait of Hormuz

Tensions in the Middle East escalated again after the United States military carried out a strike on Iranian vessels near a key global oil route.

According to the US Central Command, American forces targeted vessels suspected to be involved in mine-laying activities around the strategic waterway. The military confirmed that 16 Iranian minelaying vessels were destroyed during the operation. The development quickly drew global attention because the Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important shipping routes in the world. A large portion of the world’s oil supply passes through the narrow channel daily.

In a statement released online, the US Central Command confirmed the attack and shared footage from the operation.

US forces eliminated multiple Iranian naval vessels, March 10, including 16 minelayers near the Strait of Hormuz,” the command announced in a post on X.

Meanwhile, video footage released by the military showed several vessels being hit during the strike. The Strait of Hormuz is the only sea passage connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman. Therefore, it plays a critical role in global energy supply.

A large share of the world’s crude oil shipments move through this route every day. Any disruption in the area can quickly affect global markets.

According to reports, the Iranian minelayers were located close to the strait before they were destroyed. Furthermore, the operation came after warnings from Washington about possible Iranian attempts to mine the waterway.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump had issued a firm warning to Tehran about any attempt to block the shipping route. In a post on social media, Trump stated that the US military had taken action after reports of suspicious activity in the area.

He also warned that stronger action could follow if mines were placed in the waterway.

If for any reason mines were placed, and they are not removed forthwith, the Military consequences to Iran will be at a level never seen before,” Trump wrote.

Meanwhile, global oil markets have been closely watching developments around the Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices had surged earlier due to fears that the conflict could disrupt supply routes. According to economic experts, any prolonged tension in the region could affect fuel prices worldwide.

The situation has also drawn attention from global leaders concerned about the economic impact of the Middle East conflict. French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the Group of Seven leaders would hold an emergency discussion.

The meeting will be conducted through a video conference to examine the global energy situation. Moreover, security agencies believe that protecting the Strait of Hormuz remains a top priority for global stability. However, tensions between the United States and Iran remain high.

  1. Iran’s government is a destructive one. Once they are attacked, they want to bring everyone down with them. Fight the US and leave others out of it
