A truck ran into three tricycles at Ikotun ,Lagos on Tuesday killing two people at the process.Despite the unfortunate incident,four people were rescued by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) from the accident scene.
The accident which occurred around 12:30pm on Tuesday involved a fully loaded container truck (JJJ 125) and three tricycles with registration No. LSD 83 QM, AKD 690 QK and AKL 87 QF.The driver of one of the tricycles with one passenger died instantly.The four rescued victims include two pregnant women and two children.
Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, said the authority’s personnel immediately handed over those rescued to policemen from Ikotun Police Station who took them to General Hospital for treatment.
However,this is coming two days after a containerised truck fell on a commercial bus in Ojuelegba area and crushed nine people to death.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the fully loaded container truck (JJJ 125) had a brake failure and crushed three tricycles by a valley around Synagogue inward Ikotun.The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) immediately moved the tanker with the crushed tricycles to Ikotun Police Station.Other emergency responders, including the Nigerian Police men from Ikotun Police Station were also at the scene of the accident.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, however, warned tanker owners and drivers to always ensure that their trucks were properly checked and in good conditions before embarking on any journey.
