U.S. President Donald Trump has disclosed that rapper and music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs allegedly reached out to him seeking a presidential pardon.
Trump made the unexpected statement while addressing reporters in the Oval Office on Monday, October 6.
Speaking candidly, the president said the request came shortly after Diddy was sentenced to nearly four years in prison on federal charges.
“A lot of people have asked me for pardons,” Trump said. “I call him Puff Daddy; he has asked me for a pardon.”
According to U.S. District Court Judge Arun Subramanian’s ruling, Diddy was sentenced to 50 months in prison on Friday, October 3, following his conviction on two prostitution-related charges.
The sentence marks a dramatic fall for one of hip-hop’s most prominent figures, who has faced multiple legal battles over the past year.
However, Diddy’s legal team insists the punishment was excessive and plans to challenge the verdict.
Speaking to ABC News, lead attorney Teny Geragos argued that the court relied on unproven claims that were not part of the official conviction.
“The jury made it very clear in their verdict that they acquitted him of the sex trafficking and the RICO counts,” Geragos said. “Not guilty means not guilty.”
Moreover, Diddy’s lawyers have requested that he be transferred to FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Jersey.
They said the facility would allow him to participate in rehabilitation and educational programs while staying closer to family.
“In order to address drug abuse issues and maximize family visitation, we request placement at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes,” Geragos wrote in a letter to the court.
Meanwhile, President Trump’s comments have sparked widespread discussion across social media, with many expressing surprise at the revelation.
Diddy, who has been in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his September 2024 arrest, could be released in less than three years after receiving credit for time served.
