The Big Brother Naija reality show was struck by tragedy on Sunday night as host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu announced the passing of crew member Ayotunde Elegbede.
The sad revelation came during the live eviction show, casting a cloud over what is usually one of the season’s most anticipated episodes.
According to Ebuka, the show’s organisers were informed of Elegbede’s death by his family.
However, details surrounding his passing were not disclosed.
The announcement was met with shock and sadness, both from the live audience and viewers watching from home.

“We received news from his family that Ayotunde Elegbede has passed away,” Ebuka shared solemnly, pausing briefly before continuing the night’s proceedings.
Despite the heartbreaking news, the live eviction continued as planned. Danboskid became the first housemate to leave the competition, followed by Ibifubara. Denari narrowly escaped eviction, securing his place in the house for at least another week, as confirmed by the voting chart displayed after the show.
Before his exit, Danboskid expressed optimism about his life after Big Brother Naija, revealing his interest in joining Nollywood and maintaining his relationship with fellow housemate Zita outside the house.
Ibifubara, a 28-year-old therapist, admitted to feeling lonely during the week due to shifting friendships inside the house.
She also disclosed being attracted to housemates Otega and Bright Morgan but chose not to pursue her feelings.
She shared plans to launch a podcast and work on expanding the creative direction of a hair brand.
Meanwhile, the show’s organisers are yet to issue a formal statement beyond Ebuka’s live announcement.
