President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a firm caution to Nigerians ahead of the Christmas celebrations, urging citizens to avoid alcohol and embrace moderation to protect lives and public safety.
The President gave the advice while speaking to journalists at his Lagos residence on Sunday, December 21, as Nigerians prepared for the festive season.
His message, delivered in a calm but direct tone, focused on peace, restraint and collective responsibility during the holidays.
At a time when Christmas festivities are often marked by heavy celebrations, Tinubu’s call stood out as a reminder of the risks that come with excess.
He stressed that the season should bring joy, not tragedy, and encouraged Nigerians to celebrate in ways that preserve life.
“We will continue to pray to God Almighty that the coming Christmas will be a joyous one for every one of us,” Tinubu said.
“The coming holiday will not be a disaster for Nigeria. God will bless all of you. You will stay in peace, rejoice in peace, dance in peace, no alcohol, no danger to anybody’s life.”
The President added that Nigeria is making steady progress despite its challenges. Moreover, he reassured citizens that his administration remains committed to tackling insecurity across the country.

“Nigeria is making progress. God will bless you, will bless Lagos, bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said. “I assure you, we will defeat banditry and terrorism. God bless you!”
The remarks were later echoed during an interview on News Century TV, where Tinubu expanded on the need for calm and moderation during the yuletide.
He noted that Christmas should strengthen unity among families and communities, not expose them to avoidable harm.
According to the President, responsible celebration is not just a personal decision. Instead, it is a shared duty that helps protect others and maintain public order.
“Stay in peace, dance in peace, no alcohol, no danger to anyone’s life,” he repeated, reinforcing his message.
Meanwhile, Tinubu urged Nigerians to see one another as members of a single national family. He called for patience, tolerance and care, especially during a period known for travel, social gatherings and increased road activity.
In addition, the President linked responsible celebration to the broader goal of national stability.
He explained that peace at the community level supports the government’s wider efforts to address security challenges.
