Tinubu Pledges Economic Growth and Inflation Reduction in 2025

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to boosting food production and reducing inflation to 15% in 2025.

In his New Year address, Tinubu highlighted economic improvements, including lower fuel prices, rising foreign reserves, and a stronger Naira, as indicators of progress that will continue into the new year.

He emphasized plans to strengthen the economy by expanding local manufacturing and promoting agricultural reforms to lower the cost of living.

“Though 2024 posed numerous challenges to our citizens and households, I am confident that the New Year will bring brighter days,” Tinubu said.

“We are resolute in our ambition to reduce inflation from its current high of 34.6% to 15%.”

He added that efforts would focus on providing credit facilities, encouraging investments, and boosting industrial growth to support job creation and national development.

Meanwhile, Tinubu outlined plans to establish a National Credit Guarantee Company to support small businesses and promote re-industrialization.

“This initiative will strengthen the confidence of the financial system, expand credit access, and support underserved groups such as women and youth,” he stated.

He urged governors and local councils to align with federal reforms, emphasizing unity and collaboration for economic transformation.

However, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) criticized Tinubu’s address, dismissing it as “empty rhetoric” and lacking concrete plans to address Nigeria’s economic challenges.

The PDP, through its spokesperson Debo Ologunagba, called for immediate reforms to tackle corruption, improve security, and reduce poverty.

The party accused Tinubu’s administration of “hopeless rhetoric, unsubstantiated statistics, and false promises” that have left Nigerians frustrated.

The PDP further demanded accountability for funds saved from the removal of fuel subsidies and criticized the government’s handling of national resources.

“The last 18 months have been the most excruciating period for Nigerians since the Civil War,” the statement read.

Despite the criticism, Tinubu remained optimistic, promising to launch initiatives like the National Values Charter to promote patriotism and trust between the government and citizens.

Many Nigerians are hopeful that 2025 will bring relief and stability, as the government pushes for economic transformation.
