President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a bold step following the recent deadly attacks in Borno State. He has ordered top military leaders to relocate to Maiduguri immediately. The directive comes after coordinated explosions and assaults shook the city, leaving many dead and others injured.
The attacks targeted key locations across Maiduguri, including a hospital, a market, and a busy public area. At least 23 people were killed, while over 100 others were injured. Emergency services were quickly mobilised to manage the situation.
However, security forces were said to have repelled additional attacks on military positions. This prevented further damage in areas like Ajilari, Baga, and Damboa.
Meanwhile, the President expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy.
He said, “The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time.”
According to the President, the attacks are signs of desperation by terrorist groups. He believes the pressure from security forces has weakened them.
He stated that these acts are “desperate and frantic attempts” by criminals trying to spread fear. In addition, he assured Nigerians that stronger actions would follow.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu commended the military for their response. Troops were praised for stopping coordinated assaults on their positions. He noted that the attackers are gradually losing strength due to ongoing military pressure.
Moreover, confidence was expressed in the ability of security agencies to handle the situation. The President insisted that no part of Nigeria would be left vulnerable.
He said, “there is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety.”
Furthermore, Tinubu revealed that new security measures have already been approved. These include additional equipment and operational support for security agencies. This step is expected to boost their effectiveness in tackling insurgency. Emergency response agencies have also been directed to provide proper care for victims. However, the attacks have raised fresh concerns about the return of insurgency threats. Boko Haram and ISWAP activities have been increasing in recent months.
Nigeria’s fight against insurgency has lasted over a decade. Thousands of lives have been lost, and many families have been displaced. Therefore, calls for stronger security strategies have intensified. Despite these concerns, the government has maintained a firm stance. President Tinubu has reassured citizens that the fight against terrorism will continue. Meanwhile, the relocation of service chiefs is expected to improve coordination and response speed.
