The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested popular TikTok influencer Murja Ibrahim Kunya in Kano over allegations of abusing the Nigerian currency, the naira.
Kunya, known for her controversial content on social media, was taken into custody over the weekend, according to a source within the anti-graft agency.
The arrest was confirmed to Kano-based Freedom Radio, with the source stating, “The investigation is ongoing, and once completed, she will be charged in court for prosecution.”
The influencer, who gained prominence through her TikTok account Yagayagamen, has faced public scrutiny in the past due to the nature of her content.
Despite starting her social media journey as a hobby, she turned it into a full-time career, amassing a significant following.

However, her activities have not been without consequences, as they have led to multiple convictions within Kano State.
Meanwhile, Kunya’s arrest is part of a larger crackdown by the EFCC, as other TikTok personalities, including Al’amin G-Fresh and Ashir Idris, have also been detained for similar offenses.
This trend highlights the growing concerns over the misuse of the naira on social media platforms and the consequences influencers may face for violating financial laws.

The abuse of the naira has been a major concern in Nigeria, with authorities warning that disrespecting the country’s currency could lead to legal action.
The EFCC has remained firm in enforcing these laws, as seen in the recent wave of arrests targeting online personalities.
