Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured President Bola Tinubu of the 10th National Assembly’s support in driving reforms to transform Nigeria’s economy and governance.
Akpabio made the pledge during a New Year visit to the President at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos, accompanied by principal officers from the National Assembly and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
While addressing the President, Akpabio commended Tinubu’s courage in implementing bold economic reforms, such as the removal of fuel subsidies, acknowledging the temporary hardship caused but emphasizing its long-term benefits.
He further stated, “This journey of reforming Nigeria, in all aspects, you are not alone. The National Assembly is with you.”
Akpabio described Tinubu as the “man of the year,” adding, “You have taken the very, very hard decision that Nigeria needed to take many years before you became president.”
He urged Nigerians to remain patient, likening the reforms to the pains of childbirth that will soon lead to lasting relief and economic stability.
The Senate President also extended condolences to Tinubu over the stampede incidents in 2024 that claimed lives during rice-sharing events in Ibadan, Anambra, and Abuja.
“Please accept our sympathy for the souls of your citizens that you lost in 2024. May their souls rest in perfect peace,””
Akpabio said, while reassuring the President of the 10th National Assembly’s support to enact policies that promote economic growth and national unity.
Furthermore, Akpabio expressed gratitude for the President’s efforts to create a conducive business environment and attract foreign investments, citing Nigeria’s recent success in raising $2 billion through Eurobond subscriptions.
He remarked, “Nigeria is now becoming a destination where people come in and can get a visa at the airport.
It never happened before.”Akpabio affirmed that with continued reforms and cooperation, Nigeria is on track to achieving sustainable development for a better Nigeria for all.
