Chijioke Ihunwo, Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, has issued a public caution to President Bola Tinubu, advising him to be vigilant regarding Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike’s potential political maneuvers.
Speaking to journalists, Ihunwo expressed concerns that Wike may have presidential ambitions for 2027 and could use his influence within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to further these aspirations.
“Wike has plans to run for president in 2027.
Mr. President should be wary about Wike,” he warned, drawing parallels to Wike’s past political tactics with former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi.
Ihunwo’s warning highlights the complex alliances and rivalries shaping Nigeria’s political landscape as the next election cycle approaches.
He emphasized that Wike’s “style” has involved strategic positioning within the PDP while aligning with powerful figures, potentially to advance his own agenda.
In his concluding remarks, Ihunwo urged Tinubu to approach his relationship with the FCT Minister cautiously, adding, “I want to appeal to the president to be very wary of Wike.”
As political alliances shift, Ihunwo’s caution reflects the need for discernment and strategy at the highest levels of leadership.
