The subscription by Lagosians to the Itesiwaju court housing scheme by the Lagos Building Investment Company (LBIC), saddled with the responsibility to provide mortgage facilities to allottees of housing scheme built by the Lagos State Government have complained bitterly on the ongoing fraudulent activities carried out by LBIC.
There are shared reports by many of the allottees of the Itesiwaju court situated in Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos State, of the high handedness of the management and managing director of the Agency, Mr Oluwatobi Lawal who is a close confidant of Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu.
One of the allottees warned that another “Magodo like” fiasco is looming, lamenting that despite completing the full payment of the flats, she was recently asked to pay additional sum of money without justification. Stating that the additional money demanded doesn’t add up since she has been given her letter of completion which officially acknowledged full payment.
“I learned that I wasn’t singled out for the request for additional payment and one can only wonder if this is in line with the greater Lagos vision of his Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu,” She said.
“In 2017, I signed up for a unit of the three-bedroom flat scheme at the Itesiwaju Court in Amuwo-Odofin, so it can serve as my retirement investment plan. The purchase sum was clearly stated as thirty-five million naira which was paid in different installments. Upon the completion of full payment an official letter acknowledging total payment was sent with an agreement that allocation would be done once the construction of the said building is completed”. She said.
“Allocation was scheduled in 2019, unfortunately, it’s three years down the line and we haven’t heard anything with respect to that from the LBIC. While waiting patiently for the said letter of allocation, to my biggest surprise, I was sent a letter demanding that I pay an additional 5M Naira without any reasonable explanation. What a fraud!”. She lamented.
However she further added that if she knew the intiative which initially seemed laudable by the Lagos State Government would end in shambles, she wouldn’t have bothered subscribing. She also expressed that it has become imperative that Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu investigate this matter with utmost urgency, so that some bad eggs in the Lagos Building Investment Company (LBIC) might only be after their corrupt interest, do not tarnish the advantage of such a project orchestrated by the state Government.
Some affected residents in the state has also expressed their regrets- those affected by the inconsistency of LBIC, stating that purchasing a property with a government agency shouldn’t provide similar difficulties unlike purchasing properties from the popular and notorious ‘omo-nile’ many Lagosians dread.
