Rescue workers evacuates 1,025 people from Turkish forest fire

Over 1000 persons were rescued at a wildfire raged in the Southern Turkish province of Mersin from homes and hotels on Thursday.According to the AFAD the fire started near Mersin’s Gülnar district along the Mediterranean coast.

“Forty firefighting aircraft and 850 personnel came in to quench the wildfire although seven people are currently receiving treatment at the hospitals,the highway line, connecting Mersin and the tourism hotspot of Antalya to the west, was interrupted ”AFAD added.

The fire showed dense smoke rising from a wooded hill. Strong winds made firefighting efforts harder.Following this incident,last summer, massive blazes destroyed thousands of hectares of woodland throughout Turkey, with the Aegean and Mediterranean coastline the worst affected.
