Disu, who had assumed office as the 32nd Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on October 7, 2024, has now been entrusted with even greater responsibilities.

His leadership in Abuja brought about a remarkable decline in crime, making his elevation a well-deserved recognition.

Before his tenure as FCT Commissioner of Police, Disu was the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos.

His extensive experience in law enforcement, coupled with his background as a judo champion, played a crucial role in his ability to strategize and combat criminal activities.

As the current head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) under the Inspector General of Police, he has continued to demonstrate outstanding leadership.

His time as FCT CP was marked by aggressive crime-fighting operations.

Over 1,000 criminals were apprehended within six months, with 550 arrests made between January and March 2025 alone.

The security operations targeted crime-prone areas such as Kurudu, Dutse Alhaji, Kubwa, Wuye, Galadimawa, Iddo, Kuje, Apo, Zuba, Asokoro, Karshi, Karu, and Byazhin, among others.

One of the major breakthroughs under his command resulted in the arrest of 245 suspects during a series of well-coordinated raids.

Under Disu’s leadership, the FCT police carried out an operation from late February to early March 2025, leading to the arrest of 300 additional suspects.

A significant cache of arms, ammunition, and illicit substances was also recovered.

Areas such as Dei-Dei, Karu, Gwarinpa, Jikwoyi, Karimo, and Maitama were primary targets.

Moreover, his administration launched a bold offensive against banditry and kidnapping.

The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the FCT Police Command conducted clearance operations at key locations, including Gidan-Dogo village, Kweri Forest, Gauraka Forest, and Sardauna Forest.

During these high-impact operations, seven kidnappers were neutralized, while several others were arrested.

The crackdown led to the dismantling of criminal networks that had long plagued the region.

Among those taken into custody were 59 suspected armed robbers, 10 kidnappers, and 16 suspected cultists.

Recovered items included 18 AK-47 rifles, 23 AK-47 magazines, 2 CZ Scorpion A1 rifles, 9 English pistols, 7 pistol magazines, and a range of locally made weapons.

Additionally, police seized a large quantity of ammunition, illicit drugs, and cash totaling N28,050.

Disu’s ability to restore order has been evident throughout his career.

Before his appointment as FCT CP, Abuja had faced a surge in kidnapping and armed robbery, particularly in Kuje, Kwali, and Abaji.

His impact was also felt in Rivers State, where he served as Commissioner of Police.

Within just five months, he dismantled several notorious crime syndicates in a region known for its complex security challenges.

In Lagos, his expansion of RRS operations ensured rapid response to distress calls, improving public safety.

Following his tenure in Lagos, he was assigned as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, at Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Under his guidance, the IGP-IRT maintained an impressive record, cementing his reputation as a tactical and strategic leader.

Disu’s credentials extend beyond policing.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from Lagos State University (LASU) and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State.

Furthermore, he has participated in numerous prestigious training programs both locally and internationally.

His expertise has been sharpened through specialized courses, including Small Arms Smuggling Training in Botswana, Internet Fraud Training at Cambridge University, and a Strategic Leadership Command Course at the Police Staff College in Jos.

He has also undergone Forensic Investigations and Criminal Intelligence training at the University of Lagos.

His affiliations with professional organizations such as the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management further highlight his commitment to professional development.

Olatunji Disu’s promotion is more than a personal achievement; it serves as an inspiration to upcoming police officers.

However, his legacy of service, discipline, and excellence has set a high bar in Nigeria’s security landscape.
