Moreover, it marked a shift from traditional policing methods to a more people-focused approach.

In Abuja, the event was officially launched with a coordinated walk from the Force Headquarters to the Unity Fountain.

The theme, “Together We Walk, Together We Secure,” was clearly reflected in the turnout. Furthermore, the presence of senior officers added weight to the initiative.

The Nigeria Police walkathon is part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week. However, beyond celebration, it was designed to rebuild trust and strengthen relationships with the public.

This effort has been long anticipated, especially amid growing calls for better police-community engagement.

Meanwhile, similar exercises were carried out across different states. Assistant Inspectors General and Commissioners of Police led their formations in the coordinated event.

At the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh led officers and personnel during the second day. The turnout was notably high, reflecting strong participation and interest.

He explained that it aims to promote fitness while reinforcing professionalism within the Force. Moreover, he stressed that public interaction remains key to effective policing.

Participants were seen engaging freely with residents during the walk. This interaction was welcomed by many who had long desired closer connections with law enforcement.

The event also highlights a broader effort by the police leadership to reshape public perception. In addition, it encourages officers to maintain healthy lifestyles, which can improve performance on duty.
