A surprise political meeting in Kano has stirred fresh conversations across Nigeria’s political landscape, as Peter Obi meets Kwankwaso in Kano during the Sallah celebration.

The visit, which took place on Sunday, drew attention due to the high-profile figures present. Moreover, it signaled a renewed effort by opposition leaders to strengthen ties across regions.

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi was seen alongside Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at his Miller Road residence. Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Senator Seriake Dickson, and activist Naajatu Mohammed were also in attendance.

The development has been widely discussed, as it comes amid ongoing talks about political shifts. Furthermore, there are growing suggestions that Kwankwaso could consider aligning with a different political platform in the future.

Addressing a large crowd during the Kwankwassiya Sallah festival, Obi clarified the purpose of his visit.

He said, “I’m here to felicitate with you on the occasion of Sallah and to pay my respect to our leader. So thank you.”

He added, “We want to change Kano. We want to build a new Kano. What we want to do is bring back the power of Kano all those factories in Bompai, Sharada 1, Sharada 2, Bank of the North we want to bring all of them back. Today is not politics; it is the celebration of Sallah.”

However, despite Obi’s remarks downplaying politics, the gathering has been interpreted differently by many analysts.

Kwankwaso, who hosted the event, welcomed the guests warmly and expressed satisfaction with the turnout.

In the coming weeks, further developments may emerge from this engagement.
