Oyo Police Arrest Olori Naomi Ogunwusi and Seven Others Over Ibadan Stampede

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, alongside seven others in connection with the tragic stampede at the Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan.

The incident, which occurred during a family event organized by the Wings Foundation and Agidigbo FM, claimed the lives of 35 minors and left six others critically injured.

According to a statement released by SP Adewale Osifeso, the command’s spokesperson, those arrested include the event sponsor, Prophetess Naomi, aged 31, and the school principal, Fasasi Abdulahi, aged 56, along with Genesis Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisolaja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim, and Abiola Oluwatimilehin.

The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), with the Deputy Commissioner of Police leading the investigation. “Justice will be served accordingly,” the police assured.

The command also advised residents near the affected area to remain calm amid heightened police patrols aimed at maintaining law and order.

While extending condolences to the bereaved families, the police emphasized that such negligence will not be tolerated, and measures are in place to ensure the culprits face the full weight of the law.
