Ogun PDP reject result of Abeokuta South Federal Constituency

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned result for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in last Saturday’s National Assembly election as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Earlier, the INEC had announced that Afolabi Afuape of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was the victor of the election, having polled a total of 19,891 while his closest rival Toyin Amuzu of the PDP polled 13,663 votes.

But while rejecting the result, the PDP agent for the Constituency election, Lukmon Ogunbayo said the results were fraught with many irregularities, inflated figures, manipulations, fraud, over-voting and vote buying among other illegalities.

Ogunbayo therefore said the results does not conform or reflect the votes and wishes of the people of Abeokuta South local government.“It was discovered that in some instances the number of total valid votes superseded the number of accredited voters, an anomaly which cannot be overlooked.“There is a case where BVAS could not capture or work properly and the people were allowed to vote in ward 10, unit 6. Incidence of vote buying also pervaded the entire process. Indeed, this is not a true reflection of the votes and wishes of the people,” Ogunbayo said.

He however said the PDP is rejecting the results while awaiting further directives from the party.
