“No More Waiting”: Defence Minister Orders Troops to Shoot Terrorists on Sight

Nigeria’s Defence Minister has issued a strong directive that could redefine the country’s fight against insecurity.

Troops have now been empowered to act instantly against threats, without waiting for approval.

The new order, announced on March 31, 2026, comes amid growing frustration over repeated attacks in northern communities. Many Nigerians have questioned the slow pace of response, especially as bandits and terrorists continue to strike vulnerable areas.

Under the directive, soldiers are expected to take immediate action when faced with suspected terrorists.

According to the minister, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), the decision was made to eliminate delays that often allow criminals to escape. He stressed that security forces must now act quickly to protect lives and property.

The shoot terrorists on sight order reflects a shift towards faster and more decisive military action.

However, this new directive removes that barrier. Soldiers are now expected to respond immediately when danger is identified.

In addition, the strategy is being focused heavily on the north-east, where attacks have remained frequent.
