NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has addressed concerns regarding the ongoing civil lawsuit against rapper and Roc Nation founder Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, emphasizing that the allegations will not affect the league’s partnership with Roc Nation.
Speaking at a press conference in Irving, Texas, on Wednesday, December 11, Goodell confirmed that preparations for the 2025 Super Bowl and other collaborations with Roc Nation remain on track despite the controversy.
“We are aware of the civil allegations and Jay-Z’s really strong response to that,” Goodell stated. “We know, obviously, that litigation is happening.
But from our standpoint, our relationship is not changing with them, including our preparations for the next Super Bowl.”
Goodell went on to praise Roc Nation for its contributions, noting their ongoing role in advising the NFL on major events like the Super Bowl and supporting the league’s social justice initiatives.
The allegations against Jay-Z, which include claims of sexual misconduct dating back to 2000, have been strongly refuted by the rapper’s legal team.
They have filed a motion to dismiss the suit, requesting the plaintiff reveal her identity to ensure a fair legal process.
Meanwhile, the NFL is pressing forward with plans for Kendrick Lamar’s performance at the 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
Goodell remarked, “They’ve been great partners that have provided a lot of value to us.” This firm stance underscores the NFL’s focus on its collaborative goals with Roc Nation while the legal process unfolds.
