Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reported to be in good condition following a successful prostate removal surgery performed at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem.
The operation, conducted under full anesthesia, was necessitated by a urinary tract infection caused by a benign enlargement of the prostate.
According to Netanyahu’s office, “The surgery ended successfully without complications. The prime minister has woken up, is in good condition, and is completely conscious.”
During the procedure, Justice Minister Yariv Levin briefly served as acting prime minister, while Defense Minister Israel Katz was authorized to handle security matters if required.
Netanyahu, 75, will remain in a fortified underground recovery ward for a few days, given ongoing regional tensions in the Middle East involving conflicts in Lebanon, Yemen, Iran, Syria, and Gaza.
Meanwhile, his legal team has requested a postponement of his ongoing corruption trial, set to resume January 6, 2025, to allow for adequate recovery.
Netanyahu’s health has raised concerns in recent years, following surgeries for a hernia, the installation of a pacemaker, and treatment for dehydration.
However, his swift recovery brings relief to Israel’s leadership, ensuring stability amid security challenges.
Despite facing fraud, bribery, and breach of trust charges—which he denies as politically motivated—the Prime Minister’s office remains optimistic about his return to full duties.
