Italian club Napoli have turned down a €65 million bid from Galatasaray for Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Turkish side attempted to make his loan move permanent but fell short of the €75 million release clause.
The 26-year-old forward, who joined Galatasaray on loan without an option to buy, has been in exceptional form, scoring 16 goals and providing five assists in 20 appearances.
However, Galatasaray hold a unique advantage in negotiations due to a compensation clause in the loan deal.
If Osimhen moves to another club in January, the Turkish side will receive €6 million in compensation.
This effectively raises his release clause to €81 million for other interested clubs, making Galatasaray the only team able to sign him for €75 million this month.
Nevertheless, the same release clause will be applicable to other clubs from the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Osimhen remains focused on his performances and has publicly dismissed the possibility of a mid-season departure.
In December, he addressed speculation regarding his future, stating, “I will not leave in January, I am at Galatasaray until the end of the season.
I do not know what Galatasaray and Napoli are talking about afterwards, but if they come to me, we will talk.”
His remarkable consistency has only increased his market value, especially after winning the Serie A Golden Boot with 26 goals during Napoli’s historic title-winning campaign in 2022/23.
The rejection of Galatasaray’s bid highlights Osimhen’s growing stature in European football.
