Lagos CP Fatai Tijani Probe Ojuelegba Harassment as Officers Are Detained

Tension has risen in Lagos after some anti-cultism officers were detained over an alleged harassment incident in Ojuelegba.

According to reports, the incident occurred under the Ojuelegba bridge, a busy area in Lagos.

In addition, eyewitnesses claimed that two individuals were harassed while their phones were being forcefully taken.

A bystander who tried to record the incident was also reportedly targeted. Meanwhile, the situation escalated as officers attempted to seize the recording device as well.

An X user, identified as @egykmykel1, shared the video with a strong caption. “Police impunity is back on full display. At Ojuelegba under bridge, Lagos, the anti-cultism squad officers are harassing youths and confiscating their phones.”

The Lagos State Police Command responded swiftly to the situation.

In a statement released on Tuesday, it was confirmed that the officers involved had been identified. Furthermore, they were brought before the Commissioner of Police for questioning.

“The officers involved have been identified and brought before the commissioner of police Fatai Tijani. Their statements have been obtained, and he has ordered their detention pending further investigation,” the command stated.

Meanwhile, efforts have been made to ensure a proper investigation is conducted. The police also confirmed that the complainant has been contacted.

“Meanwhile, the command has contacted the complainant, who is expected to report tomorrow to provide his statement and assist in the ongoing investigation. The outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.”

This response has been seen as a step toward accountability. Therefore, calls for better training and stricter supervision have been renewed.
