A 44-year-old man, identified as a resident of 10 Olabode Street, was trapped beneath the rubble.

He was later pulled out by emergency responders with visible fractures and bruises.

According to officials, he was immediately taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Surgical Emergency Unit, where he was admitted in stable condition.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed that five rescued victims were also rushed to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

“The LASEMA and other first responders got to the scene in good time and rescued a trapped victim and five others from the rubble,” Omotoso said.

He further noted that the trapped victim “arrived at the hospital in a stable condition and was immediately admitted for further treatment.”

Videos circulating on social media showed operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) assisting tirelessly in the rescue effort.

Their swift intervention is believed to have prevented more casualties.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the frequent cases of building collapse in Lagos.

Stakeholders have stressed the urgent need for proper orientation of engineers and contractors to ensure the use of durable building materials.

Moreover, residents are calling on the government to intensify inspections, particularly in residential areas that have been converted into commercial spaces without approval.
