In a heartfelt move to honour one of Nigeria’s most influential leaders, the Katsina State Government has declared Monday, July 14, a public holiday.
This work-free day is to allow citizens to mourn and pay final respects to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in a UK clinic on the evening of Sunday, July 13.
The announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, who emphasized the need for the state to observe a day of reflection and mourning.
Meanwhile, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the elder statesman.

Describing him as “a great leader, a hero, a true democrat, and a patriotic elder statesman whose life was dedicated to the service of Nigeria,” Governor Radda extended his condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina, and the entire country.
In addition, he offered prayers for Buhari’s soul, saying, “May Almighty Allah (SWT) grant mercy to Buhari’s soul, forgive his shortcomings, and reward his noble deeds with Aljannatul Firdaus.”
He will be remembered not only for his leadership but also for his simple lifestyle, discipline, and commitment to national growth.
Buhari’s body is expected to be flown back to Nigeria today and will be laid to rest in Daura, his hometown in Katsina State, according to Islamic rites.
Preparations for his burial have already begun, with security arrangements in place to manage the influx of sympathizers and dignitaries.
