The Kano State Government has recognized the honesty of Malama Abdulkadir-Yanmama by rewarding her with N500,000 after she returned N748,320 mistakenly credited to her account.
The funds were part of the Federal Government’s Home Grown School Feeding Programme.
Upon realizing the error, Malama reported the alert to the state’s Social Investment Programme Agency, stating that she was not a vendor for the program.
Dr. Mudassir Nasir, Executive Director of the agency, praised her integrity, confirming through the office of the auditor-general that her claims were valid.
Nasir stated, “She was not on the register for vendors who provide food for our pupils and decided to notify the government immediately.”
In addition to the monetary reward, Malama received a commendation letter and an invitation to participate in the next school feeding program.
This act of transparency highlights the importance of honesty and selflessness in fostering trust within the community.
