Kano Schools Begin Sallah Break June 4

KANO – School children across Kano State will enjoy a mid-term break as the state government announces a special holiday for Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The announcement brings joy to many students and parents who welcome the opportunity for rest and family time during the festive season.

According to the Kano State Ministry of Education, all public and private primary and secondary schools will begin the Sallah break on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

In a statement issued by Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry, boarding students will remain on holiday until Sunday, June 15, 2025, while day students are expected back in school on Monday, June 16, 2025.

“Parents and guardians of students in boarding schools are requested to pick up their children by the early hours of Wednesday, June 4, 2025,” the statement emphasized.

The Ministry also confirmed that other sections of the 2024/2025 academic calendar remain unchanged.

This includes all public holidays previously set for the school year.

The planned break is not expected to affect learning, as the schedule will continue after the Sallah festivities.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, appreciated the cooperation received from families in the state.

He encouraged parents to ensure their children return to school on time.

“I want to use this opportunity to appreciate the usual support and cooperation given to the Ministry by the good people of the state and also wish the students and pupils a successful Sallah break,” he stated.

The mid-term holiday comes at a time when students may be feeling the pressure of long academic activities, making the Eid-el-Kabir break a welcome relief.

This move mirrors a similar decision earlier in the year when states like Katsina, Kebbi, and Bauchi granted school holidays for the full month of Ramadan.

The Sallah break for Kano schools also allows children and teachers to reconnect with their families and recharge ahead of the remaining part of the school term.
