The long-standing legal battle involving Jay-Z and Rymir Satterthwaite has taken a new twist.
Rymir, who has claimed for years that the billionaire rapper is his biological father, has withdrawn his federal lawsuit against the music mogul.
This development comes after months of renewed attention on the Jay-Z legal battle, which Rymir reignited earlier this year.
However, in an unexpected update shared on Instagram on July 27, the 30-year-old aspiring musician revealed he had decided to pull back at least for now.
“I did withdraw my case,” Rymir said in a video message. He further explained, “There was a lot going on behind closed doors.”
“I have not stopped my fight,” he added. “We got to step back and play chess, not checkers.”

The lawsuit, filed earlier this year, was not for child support or financial benefits.
Instead, Rymir alleged emotional pain and damage to his reputation, claiming Jay-Z had used the legal system to avoid paternity claims.
His complaint accused the rapper of misleading courts and denying him the chance to be heard properly.
In response, Jay-Z’s legal team firmly dismissed the claims. According to a court filing dated June 16, the attorneys stated,
“The fabricated allegations and claims have been addressed and rejected in multiple other courts.”
Furthermore, the team argued that this lawsuit was just another part of what they described as a “decades-long harassment” from Rymir.
They also noted that Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, had not been properly notified about the case until a month after it had been filed.
“The federal lawsuit was not properly served,” Jay-Z’s lawyers insisted, suggesting that the rapper was unaware of the legal action at the time it was submitted.
In addition, they requested more time to go through the complaint and decide the next steps.

The filing emphasized the need to properly assess the situation before giving a formal reply.
Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time Rymir has taken legal steps to confirm his alleged connection to the Carter family.
Over the years, he has made repeated efforts to prove his paternity claims, but all have been dismissed in court.
Although the case has been paused, Rymir’s statement hints that this may not be the end of the Jay-Z legal battle.
