The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have reassured Igbos in the diaspora of their safety and security as they return home for the New Year celebrations.
In a statement released by its media and publicity secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB emphasized that operatives of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) would be actively safeguarding the Southeast region to ensure a peaceful atmosphere throughout the festivities.
“Alaigbo is a very peaceful region. IPOB encourages our people to return home and enjoy a peaceful festive season. ESN operatives will provide a peaceful atmosphere during the festive period,” the statement read.
Furthermore, IPOB underscored the need for peace and security to sustain economic growth in the Southeast, urging Igbos abroad to return and invest in their homeland.
The group criticized the heavy presence of military and police checkpoints in the region, which it described as a source of frustration for travelers.
“The uncountable numbers of police and military extortion checkpoints are frustrating motorists and all travelers,” IPOB stated, calling for the removal of these barriers.
The group reiterated its commitment to ensuring the protection of lives, properties, and investments brought into the region to foster development and employment opportunities for the youth.
