Nigeria’s top police officer has made a sudden move to Maiduguri following the recent deadly explosions.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, was seen engaging directly with victims and officials. His presence signals an urgent response to the crisis.
The IGP first visited injured victims receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. During the visit, he interacted with those affected by the explosions.
He expressed sympathy to victims and their families. Meanwhile, medical teams continue to provide care for those injured.
After the hospital visit, the IGP moved to the Maiduguri Monday Market. This location was one of the major sites affected by the bombing.
An on-the-spot assessment was carried out to understand the scale of damage. Security officials were also engaged during the visit.
Moreover, the inspection allowed authorities to review existing safety measures. Therefore, adjustments can be made where necessary.
Meanwhile, the IGP continued his engagements across the state. He visited the Borno State Government House to meet with local leaders.
In addition, he held discussions at the State Police Command Headquarters. These meetings focused on improving coordination among security agencies.
Furthermore, strategies were reviewed to strengthen response efforts. He assured residents that efforts are underway to dismantle criminal networks.
He also emphasised the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to prevent further attacks.
Security measures, according to him, have already been intensified. This includes increased deployments across key areas.
Moreover, surveillance has been expanded to monitor suspicious activities. Joint operations with other agencies have also been strengthened.
Meanwhile, patrols have been increased in vulnerable locations. These efforts are expected to reduce the risk of further incidents.
However, fear still lingers among many residents. Therefore, the IGP’s visit is seen as an attempt to calm tensions.
He reassured the public that their safety remains a top priority. Citizens were also encouraged to remain vigilant.
