A sudden and strong security response has been ordered following the recent killings in Plateau State. The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has moved quickly to contain the situation and restore calm.
However, authorities say urgent steps are now being taken to prevent further violence.
Moreover, the swift action from the police leadership signals how serious the situation has become.
In an official statement, the IGP condemned the attack in Angwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly claimed the lives of several innocent citizens. Furthermore, it was revealed that a large number of security personnel and assets have been mobilised.
According to the police, “In response to the situation, IGP Disu had earlier deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada to Plateau State to assess the security situation, coordinate ongoing operations, and strengthen the existing security architecture.”
In addition, more tactical units have been sent to support ongoing operations. These include Police Mobile Force teams and intelligence operatives working alongside other security agencies.
The statement also stressed the determination of the police to maintain control. It noted, “The Inspector-General of Police has further intensified operations through the deployment of additional tactical teams, Police Mobile Force units, and intelligence operatives, in conjunction with other security agencies, to tackle the ongoing security challenges and forestall any further breakdown of law and order across the State.”
Meanwhile, the police leadership has assured citizens that operations will continue until peace is fully restored. “The Inspector General of Police states that these actions will continue until normal conditions return.”
To strengthen visibility, officers have been instructed to engage directly with communities.
“He has instructed all operational commanders to ensure visible policing and actively engage with vulnerable communities.”
However, beyond the security measures, residents have also been urged to play their part. The IGP called on the public to remain calm and avoid actions that could worsen the situation.
Therefore, cooperation with security agencies has been strongly encouraged.
