IGP Disu Releases ₦2.4bn to Families of Fallen Police Officers (Photos)

In a deeply emotional moment, the Nigeria Police Force has taken a major step toward supporting families of fallen officers. Over ₦2.4 billion has been paid out to beneficiaries across the country.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, personally presented the cheques at a ceremony in Abuja. The event brought together families, officials, and beneficiaries.

A total of 1,075 beneficiaries received payments under different welfare schemes. These include the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

The total sum disbursed stood at ₦2,435,421,584.11. The payments covered several policy years, including outstanding claims.

 

Meanwhile, some of these claims had been pending for years. Therefore, the disbursement was welcomed by many families. The event was held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

During the ceremony, the importance of supporting families was emphasised. The Force Insurance Officer, ACP Lydia Ameh, addressed attendees.

She explained that the payments reflect the current leadership’s focus on welfare. She also noted that efforts have been made to recover long-standing insurance obligations.

Moreover, steps have been taken to ensure compliance from insurance providers. According to her, delays in claims settlement are being addressed. In his remarks, the IGP described the moment as more than financial support. He said it was a recognition of sacrifice.

 

He noted that officers who lost their lives served with courage and dedication. Furthermore, he stressed that their families must not be forgotten. However, the IGP also acknowledged the need for better systems. He promised improvements in how benefits are handled. Efforts will be intensified to reduce delays in processing claims. In addition, modern technology will be introduced to improve transparency.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to accountability. It stated that welfare programs will be managed more effectively. Furthermore, transparency in handling funds will be strengthened.

For many families, the payments bring relief after years of waiting. It also sends a message that their sacrifices are valued.
