Grief have gripped Ondo State after suspected gunmen reportedly killed a traditional ruler in Akure North.
Oba Kehinde Jacob Falodun, the Alagamo of Agamo community, was attacked on Wednesday evening in what was described as a violent palace invasion.

Moreover, sources within the royal family said more than 10 armed men stormed the palace. The attackers were believed to have come with the intention to abduct the monarch. However, the ruler reportedly resisted the attempt.
During the confrontation, gunshots were fired. It was gathered that although several bullets were discharged, they did not penetrate his body. The assailants then allegedly struck him on the head with a weapon. He was left critically injured.
Police authorities later confirmed the incident with a detailed statement. The Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said the attack occurred on February 18, 2026.
“The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a tragic incident that occurred on 18th February, 2026, at about 7:10 p.m., involving the killing of Oba Kehinde Jacob Falodun, the traditional ruler of Ahungha Village, Agamo Area,” the statement read.
According to the police, information was received at about 7:50 p.m. from a community leader.
The report stated that “approximately six armed men stormed the residence of the monarch, forcibly took him from his compound, and subsequently fled the scene.”
The statement further added, “The victim was later found a few metres away with gunshot wounds. He was confirmed dead at the scene.”
Meanwhile, security operations have been intensified in the area. The Divisional Police Officer, alongside tactical teams, was mobilised immediately. Local security groups, including Atuluse Security, local hunters, and Amotekun operatives, joined the search efforts.
“Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. Monitoring and surveillance activities have been intensified across the area to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further breakdown of law and order,” Jimoh stated.
The police also assured the public that justice would be pursued.
“The Police Command assures the public that no stone will be left unturned in bringing those responsible for this heinous act to justice. Members of the public with credible & actionable information are urged to report to the nearest police station or contact the Command.”
