Bello, who faces charges of money laundering, corruption, and alleged N80 billion fraud during his tenure, secured his release on Friday, December 20, much to the relief of his successor, Governor Usman Ododo.

The court had earlier granted him bail in the sum of N500 million, with conditions requiring three sureties owning properties in upscale areas of Abuja, including Maitama, Guzape, or Asokoro.

In addition to the financial conditions, Bello was required to surrender his passport and has been restricted from leaving Nigeria without prior court approval. Governor Ododo expressed joy over Bello’s release, emphasizing the importance of accountability in leadership.

“This experience is a lesson for every leader to uphold integrity and transparency while in office,” Ododo said.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continues its investigation, underscoring the need for public officials to remain above reproach in their service to the nation.
