India is mourning the loss of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday after battling an illness.
Singh, celebrated for his economic reforms and transformative leadership, served as prime minister from 2004 to 2014, steering the nation through significant growth and development.
Despite facing challenges during his second term, his legacy as a statesman and economist remains deeply respected.
Current Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief, stating, “India grieves the loss of one of its most esteemed leaders.
As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives.” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute, calling Singh a “mentor and guide” and lauding his “immense wisdom and integrity.”
Singh’s contributions to India’s economic rise and his reputation for humility and honesty earned praise from leaders across party lines, including opposition figure Mallikarjun Kharge, who described him as “a visionary statesman” and “a leader of unimpeachable integrity.”
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences confirmed that Singh collapsed at his residence before being rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Tributes continue to pour in from across the country, with President Droupadi Murmu stating that Singh would “always be remembered for his service to the nation.”
His passing marks the end of an era, leaving a legacy of reforms, dedication, and dignity that will inspire generations to come.
