This initiative, directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is aimed at providing relief to Nigerians amid the economic challenges they face.

According to Olujimi Oyetomi, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Transportation, the discounted fares will take effect immediately.

He stated, “To kick off the 2024 Yuletide road transportation, passengers will only pay 50% of the usual fares to their destinations, as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

This announcement was made during a signing ceremony led by the Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Alkali, represented by Permanent Secretary Adeleye Adeoye.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Federal Government and key transport stakeholders such as the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and major operators like God is Good Motors, ensures this measure will be widely implemented.

Passengers traveling from major hubs like Abuja and Lagos will benefit from the subsidy, further underlining the government’s commitment to supporting citizens during this festive period.
