A tragic accident involving a J5 Ford bus (FKJ 724 YC) and a Mercedes truck (FKJ 746 YC) occurred earlier today at Ilubirin, inward Sura, along the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge.
The collision, confirmed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), claimed the life of one individual, while three others were critically injured and transported to the General Hospital on Lagos Island for medical care.
According to LASTMA’s preliminary report, the J5 Ford bus, carrying pepper and other perishable goods, experienced a brake failure while speeding, leading to a collision with the Mercedes truck.
LASTMA, supported by the Lasema Response Unit (LRU), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), LASAMBUS, and the Nigerian Police, managed the rescue operation, extricating four victims from the wreckage.
Tragically, one individual succumbed to injuries on the spot.
The scene was swiftly cleared by the emergency teams to restore traffic flow.
This incident highlights the urgent need for regular training and stricter enforcement of road safety measures to prevent such occurrences.
