Former Aston Villa star Ahmed Elmohamady has fiercely defended Mohamed Salah after Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher criticised the forward on live television.
The reaction came as a surprise to many fans who did not expect such a direct exchange between the former Premier League players.
Moreover, the comments have sparked new debate online, especially among supporters of the Egypt captain.
The clash started after Salah’s weekend interview, where he said Liverpool had “thrown him under the bus” and revealed he had “no relationship” with manager Arne Slot.
His remarks followed several games where he had been benched in the Premier League.
Furthermore, Salah was later left out of the squad for the Champions League match against Inter Milan.
Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, did not hold back. The pundit called the forward’s behaviour a “disgrace” and even revisited his difficult spell at Chelsea, saying Salah struggled during his early Premier League years.
His comments created tension online, especially after he posted a cryptic message on X shortly before Liverpool’s next game.
However, Elmohamady was quick to push back. The retired defender posted a sharp response on X, openly criticising Carragher’s remarks.
“Right Jamie you’re a disgrace, Salah completely rewrote his story through hard work, humility, and world-class performances,” he wrote.
In addition, Elmohamady highlighted Salah’s journey from limited chances at Chelsea to becoming a global star.

He said, “He didn’t ‘fail’ at Chelsea he was never given the chance. He went to Italy, rebuilt himself, then came to Liverpool and became: a Premier League legend, Egypt’s greatest ever player, one of the most consistent forwards of his generation.”
Elmohamady continued by praising Salah’s national team impact. “Salah has carried Egypt for years and getting Egypt qualified for World Cup twice after so long, Salah earned everything,” he added.
Meanwhile, he took one final shot at Carragher’s reputation by recalling past football disputes.
“No wonder you got blanked by Ronaldo. No wonder Messi called you out. No wonder Mourinho said you were below average and not even in top 1000 defenders in the Premier League,” he concluded.
Therefore, the exchange has gained huge attention across social media, with fans taking sides in the growing debate.
Many discussions revolve around Elmohamady slams Carragher as supporters analyse the long-running respect Salah holds in world football.
Elmohamady, who played 33 times with Salah for Egypt and enjoyed spells at Sunderland, Hull, and Aston Villa, remains widely respected among Egyptian fans.
Furthermore, his defence of Salah has added more weight to the heated conversation surrounding one of the Premier League’s biggest stars.
