The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed two of its staff members over allegations of corruption, marking a firm stance on discipline within the organization.
Speaking at the 6th Annual Criminal Law Review Conference in Abuja, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede emphasized that integrity is non-negotiable for those fighting corruption.
“You can’t be fighting corruption, and your hands are dirty. He who comes to equity, your hands must also be clean,” he stated.
Olukoyede revealed that the dismissals occurred two weeks ago and added that dismissed staff members would not only lose their positions but also face prosecution.
“I will not only be dismissing them; I will also be prosecuting them because that is what we prosecute others for,” he said.
This move prioritizes the importance of discipline in government institutions, particularly those tasked with upholding the law.
Olukoyede stressed the need for transparency within the EFCC, stating that internal investigations into wrongdoing are ongoing and that the commission is preparing case files for prosecution.
Furthermore, he highlighted reforms within the organization to ensure ethical standards are met.
This decisive action sends a clear message to employees and the public about the EFCC’s commitment to combating corruption from within, setting a precedent for accountability in governance.
