Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been named among the top five finalists for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award, a remarkable recognition for her outstanding contributions to African football.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the final nominees on Wednesday, December 4, with Nnadozie standing as the sole Nigerian finalist, after Raheedat Ajibade missed out despite being included in the initial 10-player list.
The other finalists are Tabitha Chawinga, Temwa Chawinga, Barbara Banda, and Sanaâ Mssoudy, ensuring a new winner for the prestigious award since Asisat Oshoala’s reign that began in 2018.
In addition to her nomination for Women’s Player of the Year, Nnadozie has also been shortlisted for the Goalkeeper of the Year award, which she won in 2023.
Meanwhile, the Super Falcons have been nominated for National Team of the Year, and Edo Queens feature among the finalists for Club of the Year.
This milestone serves as a testament to Nigeria’s growing prominence in African football and a motivation for others to pursue excellence in their respective fields.
“This recognition is not just for me but for every Nigerian striving to make a mark,” Nnadozie has said previously about such accolades.
