Catholic priest Fr. Kelvin Ugwu has voiced his disapproval on social media over a viral video showing a pastor and church members praying for “miracle money” to appear in their bank accounts.
In the video, congregants are seen holding up their phones while the pastor passionately commands funds to enter specific bank accounts, declaring,
“I speak to the Zenith Bank account and receive miracle money. I speak to my Diamond Access account and receive miracle money. I speak to UBA; receive miracle money.”
Fr. Ugwu criticized this approach, questioning the focus of such gatherings and stating that it misrepresents the purpose of worship.
Reacting to the video, Fr. Ugwu expressed concern that such practices make Christianity appear superficial, stating,
“Unfortunately, this is what some people gather to do and call it night vigil.”
He added that these actions can harm the image of the church and urged believers to focus on building genuine faith rather than expecting miraculous deposits, saying,
“Stop helping these people bastardize Christianity.”
He also pointed out the contradiction in the pastor’s approach, noting,
“The same minister commanding money… will rather choose to ask the people to bring offerings and tithe instead of commanding the same money into his own account.”
Fr. Ugwu’s message called for a shift back to faith-based teachings and encouraged Christians to take personal responsibility in their spiritual journey.
