Football fans are in for a historic moment as Manchester United legend Ashley Young and his son Tyler Young are set to make Championship history.
The pair are on the verge of becoming the first father-son duo to play together in the league.
The chance to see them share the field almost came last season when Tyler’s Peterborough side met Everton in the FA Cup.
At the time, Ashley was still on the Toffees’ books.
Had Tyler been introduced during the match, the Youngs would have made history by becoming the first father and son to play against each other in the 154-year history of the FA Cup.
However, Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson decided against fielding Tyler, denying the world that iconic moment.
Despite missing that opportunity, both players now find themselves at Portman Road, where their dream of sharing the same pitch may finally come true.
Before signing for Ipswich this summer, 19-year-old Tyler had spells at the academies of Arsenal, MK Dons, and QPR before moving to Peterborough in August 2024.
His breakthrough came with an appearance in the EFL Trophy and several bench roles in League One, the FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup.
One of his most notable moments was being named on the bench for Peterborough’s FA Cup third-round clash at Goodison Park in January 2025.
That game saw him come close to facing his Premier League-winning father, who was part of the Everton setup at the time.
Despite missing that once-in-a-lifetime chance, Tyler admitted it was surreal to even prepare for a potential showdown against his father.
At 40, Ashley Young remains one of English football’s most enduring players.
Having played for Manchester United, Aston Villa, Inter Milan, and Everton, the versatile midfielder and defender has lifted the Premier League, Serie A, and FA Cup during his career.
